Reckless Peasant Productions is proud to present Roots Roundup - Round Two!!
Friday Nov. 11th and Saturday Nov 12th, 2005 at the Fairview Pub, 898 W.
Broadway in Vancouver. Advance tickets are $12.00 (plus service
charges/fees where applicable) and are on sale now. Special guest,
singer/songwriter Lazare S. Halk opens the show on both nights starting at
9:30 PM.
Roots Roundup plays a high energy hybrid of globe-spanning music, mashing up
the sounds of rock'n roll, reggae, ska, afro-beat, folk, funk and pure old
school punk rock. Roots' lineup evolved over the years as members pursued
various musical interests including performing, writing, recording and
teaching, but core Roots members Greg Hathaway, Dave Hannah (Dym-E-Tree),
Barry Taylor, Keith Rose, David Hathaway, Mark Campbell, Shuggy Milligan and
Andy Cakes came together last spring, treating a full house of loyal and new
fans to a truly rip-roaring two-night performance at Fairview Pub.
Originally formed in 1985 in a small apartment in east Vancouver, Roots
Roundup became widely known through the late 80's and early 90's as one of
Canada's hardest working, hardest touring and hardest rockin' worldbeat
dance bands. They released numerous independent recordings including "Get
Rooted", "What We Do", "Syzygy" and in 1997, "Rootrospective", a 16 song
collection spanning their entire recording career.
Singer/songwriter Lazare S. Halk arrived in Canada a little over three years
ago from Togo, West Africa. He recorded his debut CD "Leave Us Free" in
2003 and performed this past summer as the opener for Byron Lee & The
Dragonaires at the Commodore Ballroom and Sunsplash In The Park at Deer Lake
on Sept. 3rd. Lazare also opened up for Roots Roundup last spring at The
Fairview.
In an album review of Leave Us Free, Cal Koat (www.worldbeatcanada.com)
writes "Steven lost his sight at age 9, fell in love with music and began
recording when he was 19. The press called him "The Stevie Wonder of Togo".
Steven's genuine, passion-fueled delivery on 'Leave Us Free' however, evokes
comparison to another great performer. Ziggy Marley reinvented himself last
year as a solo singer/songwriter. For my money his latest release, Dragonfly
was one of the year's best. Like Ziggy, Steven has a global voice that rings
true in a stripped down arrangement. A gift for great melodies and some help
from Vancouver's multi-talented Allan Rodger doesn't hurt this album
either".
